La-Z-Boy {Moonlight Madness Sale {Black, Blue, Yellow} & National Recline-a-thon}

La-Z-Boy ⇒ is a both a furniture manufacturer that makes and sells upholstered and wooden furniture along with being a retailer of those items at corporate stores. Who is the lazy boy here? The customer is because the association between furniture and relaxation is strong enough to allow the corporation to keep the name but otherwise present a serious pose to the marketplace.
I know that I have used furniture produced by the company within private residences other than my own. When using someone else’s furniture with their permission, one of the last things I want to exert conscious thought over is the origin or meaning of their furniture. My interest lies in conversing with the other person. So while I have experience with the products, I let that experience pass me by without thought.
Moonlight Madness Sales at La-Z-Boy appear to be clearance sales that happen twice a year. I am not able to discern a pattern as to which times or for how long Moonlight Madness goes on as an outsider.
Donor &
Receiver Mac* used to work for the corporation and was present for a number of these sales. Each Moonlight Madness sale yielded compulsory wear shirts for employees. Fortunately for him, the corporation tended to gave their employees a choice of color. Black and blue were alternates of each other when they were both options. When the yellow shirt came up, however, the only other option was pink. Mac provided me with the context that the vast majority of both labor and management at his location were male. This point augmented my long-held understanding that pink has been gendered within Western society to denote femininity. There was no surprise that Mac selected yellow over pink.
According to the back of the shirt, these sales take place during later hours but the store I used to live near only stayed open an hour or two later than normal. I think most would find this claim to be rationally true though substantively weak. The existence of the sale is put forward, by wording of the shirt, as definite proof that the people of La-Z-Boy have gone mad. Obviously, that proof is a joke rather than something that would be found within the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders ⇒.
The National Recline-A-Thon is a charity event in which participants recline back and forth in a reclining chair that occurs at company stores. The event is similar to other sweat equity charities such as the Relay For Life ⇒ that require people to find sponsors willing to pledge a certain amount per activity. The beneficiaries of all the sitting around are of local determination.
All of the shirts listed in this dossier except for the yellow Moonlight Madness shirt but with the addition of
Lake Erie Monster were left behind for me to pick up at Mac’s former residence after he left for
California. He informed me that he was leaving the La-Z-Boy shirts behind as he did not wear those shirts when he was not being paid to do so. I understand that sentiment. Never working for the corporation allows me to wear the shirts free of accumulated angst.
