Another Man’s Identity

Sometimes my mind forms associations between shirts and wearers through repetition over the years. Donor, P'FSA Receiver, & Donor Ian* and his Fiesta-val shirt is one such association. I do not know why he is partial to this shirt. All that matters to me is the reality of his shirt selection.

Not wanting to infringe upon someone else’s wardrobe has prevented me from taking exact copies when offered. Off the top of my head, I recall Donor, P'FSA, Receiver, & & AUX Proofreader Dale*‘s offer of a GTE Insurance shirt with a dog sitting on a lifeguard chair that Brian regularly wears. Neither Dale nor Brian would have cared if I took the shirt and wore it, but that would not feel right to me because the shirts are exact copies. Even though I know that other people in the world have other copies of every shirt that I have on the Free Shirt Archive my concern is to respect the individuality of the people of the people that I care about.

The only difference between Ian’s Fiesta-val shirt and the one that FSA, Donor, P'FSA, Donor, P'FSA, Receiver, & AUX Proofreader Adam* gave me is that the red accents as seen in the pictures above are lime green on Ian’s copy. This slight change is nonetheless sufficient to avoid awkwardness in my own mind. I told Adam as much at donation time even though he had no memory of Ian wearing the lime green copy.
