A Sort Of 700 Club

If this jacket were about diesel gasoline that would have been cool. Instead, the truth is that Diesel ⇒ is an Italian clothing label known for selling designer label jeans at premium prices. They also sell other items of clothing. For example, at one time the company sold this jacket. As is, this jacket is effective at keeping the wearer dry, but ineffective at providing warmth.

Faux euro-racing style sells to people who think that they are being ironic simply by engaging in conspicuous consumption. There is no racer would wear this jacket to automobile races because there are other brands that are marketed toward them. Most amusing to me is that the name Diesel 700 is interchangable with the Arctic Cat 700 Diesel all-terrain vehicle ⇒

Through research, I was able to determine that this jacket was designed by Wilbert Das ⇒, or people hired on his behalf. That anything within the Free Shirt Archive would have a known designer feels odd. Most designers of free shirts with dossiers on this website work anonymously within marketing departments that take ownership of their work.

Clothing Company Clothing

I abhor “clothing company clothing”. Most people that wear clothing company clothing are interested only in expressing that they can afford to consume a certain brand just like the Joneses. Having the shirt be just another product is so boring. There is no chance for good faith when the only value added is a name trying to compete against other names for attention from the “right” people and money.

In general, I do not like when things get too incestiously meta and self-congratulatory. For example, songs about songwriting or websites about search engine optimization. I think that there is a conflict of interest that gets in the way of producing better work.

White Elephant

The reason that I even have this clothing company jacket is because this jacket is what I ended up with at a white elephant ⇒ of which I was not aware of previous to my attendance. Fortunately, Donor Joe* was a gentleman and quickly found another gift within his home which allowed me to participate in the game. This gesture was kind enough that I was not going to deny whatever came my way from the gift exchange. I drew number 14 opened up a book of pictures that I had no interest in reading. I was relieved to have a later draw steal that book off of me, thus giving me this jacket.

The Good Intention

I was happy to get this jacket because, in addition to unloading that picture book, I had an idea to create an absurd jacket for my own amusement. The ugly color scheme for a jacket happened to be the same color scheme of the former Arcania.net ⇒. I thought this would have been an excellent opportunity to make an exhibit worthy piece by ripping out “DIESEL 700″ and replacing that with “ARCANIA DOT NETWORK”.

The idea was never acted upon. To act upon the idea would have required me to learn how to embroider and sew. The arcania palette shifted to different hues of orange. The jacket itself only has a limited temperature range. These are not excuses, they are a context for apathy.

This jacket is a candidate for weeding.
