Cleveland Cobras/Not Herb

Not Herb was a funk-inspired rock band that played quite a few shows featuring some original numbers and some covers. I attended a number of them as I was cool with the members which included
Donor Ken*, non-donors Eric and Jeff, and almost donor Bailey. Bailey was later a member of
Zealot Clef. The band has disbanded.
Donor Ken* handed me this shirt at the end of a set which started dressed up as a sumo wrestler. All shirts that the band gave out that night were repurposed in various ways. This one is a former soccer/football jersey that had embroidered letters glued upon it by members of the band. The glue did survive multiple washings, but the letters are now starting to peel.
The band name was indirectly, if not directly, inspired by a series of fast food chain Burger King advertisements ⇒. Anyone who was not the specific guy named Herb, who was supposed to be a classic nerd that was the only person who never ate a Burger King in America, could get the company’s largest hamburger for 99 cents with purchase of french fries and a medium-sized pop. There was a contest to find Herb eating at company restaurants. The campaign is regularly regarded as among the worst in American advertising history, but I think that it was just before its time. Herb would not be out of place within the current multi-pronged campaigns of the 2000s and 2010s that premeditate quirkiness.
The Cleveland Cobras ⇒ are a soccer/football club that run a number of different amateur teams for girls and boys at different ages. The club seems to have no home court, and instead utilize a number of locations throughout Cleveland, Ohio. The Cobras are sanctioned by United States Club Soccer ⇒ which is one of the two lowest private competitive soccer leagues in the United States.
A preponderance of evidence leads me to believe that this is the correct soccer club. The only thing that makes me less than sure is that I have only seen Cobra players wearing black kits. Considering that soccer teams will have home and away kits, and that white is utilized throughout the club’s website I am willing to bet that the team has a white kit.
There was an earlier team with the same name ⇒ that played professional soccer in the second iteration of the American Soccer League ⇒. The franchise was awarded named as the Stars in 1972 before becoming the Cobras a couple of years later. The team left Cleveland to become the Georgia Generals in 1982 where they played one season before folding.
This shirt is made from one hundred percent polyester. Using this material makes sense for a sporting jersey because synthetic fabrics do not absorb sweat like natural fabrics do. So far, this is the only shirt throughout the
Free Shirt Archive that is all polyester.
Other people are divided on how bright this shirt can look. The above photographs demonstrate somewhat how reflective part of the pattern is in real life. I, for one, appreciate the attempt to design a really bright shirt.
