Bad Monkey Bad
Bad Monkey Bad was a concept side project of a local rock band that did not release any commercially available product. The band completed one EP ⇒ titled “Beaverish Cat” before going dormant.
Band member
Donor &
Receiver Mac* later moved out West. Perhaps recalling the fun times he had back home, Mac decided to revive the band and make some shirts. He offered me the choice between the cover of the EP or a word mark. I selected the cover. The revival ended up not happening as intended, but the shirt was created. Upon Mac’s return East, I got the shirt.
The cover of the Beaverish Cat is shown on the shirt. This cover was designed by none other than the author of
Free Shirt Archive. It is kind of a trip to see that someone else thought what I had made one night when I was bored was good enough to be placed on a shirt.
Do note that the Freedom Quotient calculation was not influenced by the the fact that I designed the image. The Freedom Quotient calculation does not take my ego into consideration and is strictly about the altruism of the actions of the donor.
The band name was inspired by a late-night conversation about names for hypothetical movies a year or so before the band formed. Bad Monkey Bad was deemed the funniest name for a potential sado-masochistic snuff/crush film ⇒. No movie was created by anyone I know based upon the concept. A search of the Internet Movie DataBase for the title ⇒ assuredly will not bring up any direct hits either.
In the United States, a commercial release of crush film ⇒ wherein a monkey is killed would violate Title 18, Section 48 ⇒ of the U.S. Code and be punishable by fine or five years in jail.
A reader that take exception to the fact that I would even accept this shirt because it offends their sensibilities is someone that misses the point. I wear my shirts for my own reasons. My strongest association with this free shirt is friendship.
I refuse to elevate my consumptions to the level of expression. If I only wore free shirts with narratives that I believed in completely I would be naked. Were any message to earn my belief, I would want to do something meaningful, beyond just wearing a shirt.
