Explanation

The Fall

Bungee jumping is the act of tying a cord to one’s foot and jumping from a something that is taller than the length of the cord. The free fall motion of the initial descent along with the rebounding are supposed to provide quite a rush.

Unfair as it may be, the idea of bungee jumping reminds me of the early 90′s as strongly as things like P.M. Dawn ⇒ or talking to the hand ⇒. I remember perceiving that public interest bungee jumping was particularly high and strong and fell especially low ⇒. So it goes when people follow without thinking through what they are doing in time.

The retreat of the crowds and the money that they bring allows the activity the activity to be practiced by people that actually care. If I had any interest in the activity, I would certainly enjoy the community of people that remain. I would dislike the renewed concern of having to avoid law enforcement busting unauthorized jumps.

Business End

Air Boingo was a chain of seasonal (summer) bungee jumping platforms. This shirt highlights the tower that was located a couple of blocks from Atlantic Ocean in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. There appear to have been other Air Boingos in California, Florida, and Utah. The costs of operating a bungee jumping business between the costs of insurance, tower construction and/or crane rental, mortgage and/or rent, and professional labor would have to be quite high. There is little surprise that most bungee jumping businesses would be unable to survive.

This shirt is about the only non-obvious thing that I have to go on about this company. The design is typical amongst small business shirts except for the light blue to light purple gradient within the circle of the back design. Most mentions online only provide basic information such as Air Boingo being a bungee jumping business and a telephone number that leads to a disconnection message. A Los Angeles Times article from 1992 ⇒ describes problems that the company had in trying to locate in Anaheim, California.

Donor, P'FSA Receiver, & Donor Ian* was not able to recall anything about the professionalism of the company. He did recall that bungee jumping was a highlight of a trip to Myrtle Beach. He also thought skydiving was closer to being an ultimate rush than bungee jumping.
